Sociologist Herbert Spencer wrote: “Progress…is not an accident, but a necessity; it is a part of nature.” I believe that progress should be planned to meet our needs. I believe we have an obligation to balance individual property rights with the development goals of the community as a whole, seeking a balance between retail, office and residential projects.
In that spirit, we are again evaluating our ordinances and procedures relating to historical preservation and the historic nature of our community, something we have done whenever development pressures mount. I welcome this opportunity to hear from all stakeholders and again find common goals for our community, goals that speak to our desire to maintain the look and feel of our treasured neighborhoods. The discussion in the following months will include the entire community and I welcome input from all. This is, after all, our community!
